I have a small business, but it's way too complex for Excel. QuickBooks puts things in order very nicely. It's hugely complex, but understandable in small bites. I haven't found how the COGS calculator to use actual cost (which varies from order to order) instead of an average. Maybe it's not that important?.

Just throwing everyone's comments into a file, whether the questions/answers are helpful, makes for a big mess. I did, fairly easily, find Quickbook's tools to repair code. Apparently this problem was with Windows files, not QuickBooks files.
